Campus Oil Division 2 League Round 8 – Stratford Grangecon v Ballinacor
Saturday 13th June 2015

Stratford Grangecon stumbled to 0.11 – 0.8 victory over Ballincor in the League on Saturday in Winetavern.

With a depleted panel of players to rely on John Mc Cormack and his selectors had to endure some anxious moments before victory was secured. From the start both teams took a while to settle but then the home side found their rhythm and eased into a 9pt to 3pt lead at the interval.

In the second half Stratford Grangecon took their foot off the pedal but Ballincor to their credit drove on to add 5 unanswered points. Stratford Grangecon then finding their advantage cut to the minimum and their opponents carrying the fight to them rallied for one final effort that yielded 2 points and were relieved to hear Liam Cullen’s whistle to give them a winning margin of 3 points.

Stratford Grangecon mentors will be acutely aware that this type of performance will be wholly inadequate for the challenges that will lie ahead in the Championship in 3 weeks time. They will draw comfort from the knowledge of the imminent return of David Cush and Eoin Burke now that the Leaving Cert is completed, Mark Murphy and Jordon Lawrence both recovered from injury and Christopher Hanbidge from work commitments. Unfortunately while Michael Mangan has had his Knee operation it will be next year before he is expected to return.

Team Patrick Cronin, Marcus Hanbidge, Adam Doyle, Ian Moore, James Barrett, Jason Bolger, Paddy Walshe, Kieran Byrne 1pt, Eoin O’Neill,Matt Manley 1pt, Mark Landon, Colm Byrne 2pts, Mark Caplice 3pts, Tom Sweeney 1pt, Shane Byrne 3pts (2f)
Subs: Mark Murphy and Gerard OKeeffe.
