Stratford Grangecon 2-07 v 0-9 Aughrim.
Stratford/Grangecon Bandwagon Rolls On.
Despite not having the services of their two scoring aces, Shane Byrne 9 points last match and Alan Norton 2 goals and a number of other players on the easy list, Stratford/Grangecon faced up to the challenge from Aughrim, last years beaten finalists, with great commitment.
With Michael Mangan dominating the middle of the field, it fell to his center field partner, Mark Landon, to drive home the final nail into the coffin of a spirited effort from Aughrim. However, it was the presence of Kieran Byrne on the full forward line that ultimately pried open the gaps in the Aughrim defense. Jason Bolger marshaled his defenses superbly with the assistance of the always dependable Patrick Cronin.
John McCormack, Stratford/Grangecon manager, must surely be a happy and relieved man leaving this picturesque setting in Winetavern with two more points in the bag, knowing that he has a lot more firepower to add to his team and more time to eliminate some of the unnecessary mistakes that were self inflicted.
One of the staunch followers of the club was overheard saying after the match “that he was beginning to like the look of this setup”.
