Stratford Grangecon v Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney
Campus Oil Division 2 football league, round 6
Venue: Winetavern
Stratford/Grangecon resumed their winning ways with a smooth win over AGB at Winetavern on Sunday morning on a score line of 15 pts to 7 pts in this round of the Intermediate League.
Back on their familiar wide open spaces, our nifty forwards produced a very encouraging display and came close to bagging a number of goal opportunities, with Shane Byrne leading the attack and contributing 6 pts to our tally. The now regular pattern of Kieran Byrne and Eoin O’Neill dominating midfield and supplying our forwards with a plentiful supply of ball has become a feature of our play. Paddy Walsh back on his best behaviour anchored the defence from his centre half back position with Marcus Hanbidge producing yet another solid performance at full back.
The future of this team must surely be bright when yet another minor made his debut at adult level, with Ian Moore producing an eye catching performance at corner back. However, the news that Michael Mangan requires an operation on his knee is disappointing. Training resumes on Tuesday night at 8 pm.
Team: Patrick Cronin, Chris Hanbidge, Marcus Hanbidge, Ian Moore, James Barrett, Paddy Walsh, Adam Doyle, Eoin O’Neill, Kieran Byrne (2 pts), Matt Manley (2 pts), Shane Byrne (6 pts,1 free), Colin Byrne (1 point), Mark Caplice ( 4 points, 1 free), Mark Landon and Tom Sweeney.
Subs: Gerard O’Keeffe, Mark Murphy and David Cush.
