Stratford Grangecon suffer an unexpected defeat by Coolboy
A few weeks ago Peter Keogh predicted that Coolboy could be the banana skin to trip up Stratford Grangecon’s quest for Championship glory, he said that Coolboy would have nothing to lose and nothing to gain except for their stubborn determination and pride in themselves and honour for their club – and how right he was.
Stratford Grangecon’s approach to this game appeared to be relaxed and complacent and as we took to the pitch on Sunday afternoon in Baltinglass
this was very evident. The urgency and commitment displayed on other occasions was absent.
As referee, Pat Keogh through in the ball Coolboy very quickly demonstrated their intent to carry the fight to Stratford Grangecon and maintained that pressure right up to the final whistle, consequently our backs were struggling, our mid field over run and our forwards very wasteful. We did have moments, we did draw level immediately after the restart, the woodwork denied us on many occasions, but ultimately we can’t begrudge Coolboy their spirited victory.
Final score 1:06 v 1:10
The challenge now is immense, John McCormack has a huge task on his hands to rekindle hope for further advancement in the Championship, that challenge will come in the form of a must win match against our Parish neighbours Baltinglass, but our destiny is in our own hands.
