A strong performance but points left behind

A strong performance but points left behind

Round 1 of the division 4 west league commenced on Thursday evening. Stratford Grangecon were hosts to Donard Glenn. The recent games between the two sides leading up to this fixture would suggest another Donard Glenn victory and true to form the visitors left Winetavern with two valuable points.

Donard Glenn secured victory with a score of 1-10 to 0-8. What the score does not reflect is that Stratford Grangecon had the majority of ball possession and dominated many areas of the pitch, in fact it was quite evident during this strongly contested game that the home side were the stronger team.
If Stratford Grangecon had made better use of all the possession, they quite possibly could have won this game comfortably.
The home side may have let the two points on offer for this round slip through their fingers, however, they did put in a strong performance and now with the benefit of this match, the team will be a bit sharper for the round 2 match away to Valleymount on Thursday April 24th.

Hard luck lads, I heard you played well. I’m sure this match will prepare you well for the Valleymount game. Put in the effort and the rewards will come!

Ah hard luck lads, it was great to see a strong panel of players for Stratford Juniors on the pitch. Some good football considering it was your first game of the season! Get a lot of challenge matches under your belts and you could be in with a shout of winning the Div 4 league this year. Best of luck. Bob
